Lithuania - The Amberland

1st day: Vilnius

Arrival to Vilnius. Transfer to hotel. Overnight in Vilnius.

2nd day: Vilnius - Trakai

Vilnius sightseeing in the morning. Visiting the Old Town, Cathedral, St. Anne’s, St. Peter’s and Paul’s Churches, Gates of Dawn, University and many other famous points in the maze of narrow Old Town streets. Afternoon trip to Trakai, former Lithuania’s capital. The famous Trakai Castle occupies one island of Lake Galve. This unique fortification used to strike fear into the hearts of crusaders in the Middle ages. Return and overnight in Vilnius.

3rd day: Vilnius - Grutas - Kaunas

Departure to Kaunas after breakfast. Visit to Grutas soviet sculptures park, where the monuments from soviet Lithuania are collected and exhibited in an open air museum. The facility is circled by barbed wire and guard towers, and dotted with some 65 bronze and granite statues of former Soviet leaders Lenin and Stalin and other infamous communists.

Next stop – Druskininkai, Lithuanian health resort, famous as a mineral water source and homeland of talented Lithuanian artist M.K. Ciurlionis. Drive to Kaunas, overnight.

4th day: Kaunas - Neringa - Klaipeda

Kaunas city tour in the morning, including Kaunas Castle, Town Hall, known as “White Swan”, passing Vytautas Church, “Thunder” House and 1408 founded Cathedral. Trip to the War museum’s park, where one can see statues of Lithuania’s people of merit. A walk through pedestrian street Laisves aleja (Freedom avenue) is a must.

In the afternoon trip to Curonian Spit peninsula and driving along 100 km long Post street going through National park, which was recently included to UNESCO World Heritage List. Arrival to Klaipeda, overnight.

5th day: Klaipeda - Palanga - Šiauliai

Klaipeda city tour in the morning. Klaipeda is often called “Gateway to The Sea”, because it is the main Seaport of Lithuania State. City tour including the Old Post Office, historical Old Town full of handicraft shops, the Old Theatre and Simon Dach square are worth seeing.

Departure to Palanga in the afternoon – the most popular and developed sea resort in Lithuania. Visit to famous Botanical Garden and the Amber Museum situated at the Palace of Count Tyszkewicz, where one will see a rich exposition of amber pieces and some current exhibition. Walk on the popular Palanga sea bridge. Departure to Siauliai and overnight.

6th day: Siauliai - Rumsiskes - Vilnius

Siauliai sightseeing in the morning. Trip to the Hill of Crosses – unique expression of religious feelings of Lithuanian people. Drive to Vilnius with a stopover in Rumsiskes, ethnographic open air museum. In the territory of 175 ha one may see 140 original well preserved buildings dated from 18 – 20th centuries, collected from various ethnographic regions.

Arrival and overnight in Vilnius.

7th day: Vilnius

Free time to see Vilnius and to shop for the souvenirs.
